Wesley's bars

Wesley has been very patient during the creation of these bars. I'm really happy with how they came out. I hope he is. I've got some video of the heat bending used I'll post later.

angles baby, angles.

I used one of these digital angle machines from the future once before and knew I needed one. Found out that HF carries the digital unit for $28 and spent an hour making the bracket to attach it to tubing. Now multi bends will be much easier to duplicate.

Need some feedback

For a few years I taught metalworking classes @ the Worcester Center for Crafts. I tried to talk the front office into starting some sort of "intro to welding" classes but they were hesitant about shelling out any cash for the new idea. I had students of mine ask me about welding often and could only turn them towards the local night classes at Assabet Valley Voc Tech. Well, now that I have a space that could work for teaching welding/fabrication, I want to get some feedback from the loyal people that look at and read my babbling here.

The two classes that I'm thinking of offering (in the beginning) would be:

-Introduction to MIG welding and fabrication basics
-Introduction to TIG welding

Classes would probably be 2 day weekend intensives that would have some sort of project intended to be completed by the end of the 2 days. I'm only at the beginning stages of laying out the classes so I'd love to hear what you think of the idea and what would make it really work for the students. Please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email at roche.special.79@gmail.com

Thanks!

Ryan's springer bars

Built these so Ryan could bolt them into some short risers atop a springer. Not groundbreaking or a new idea, but neat all the same.

Edit: I rembered where it was that I had once seen bars like this, it was on Eli Wolf's sportster of Cheapskate Cycles. His bike is killer, credit him (and probably others) for the cool bars.

Mig welding

Found this sweet exhaust patch on a pipe for a customer's bike. Although this may be the worst example of mig welding that I've ever seen, I give the producer of this work credit for trying.

Not metal

My wife doesn't like a lot of attention for the sewing she does but I had to share some photos of this cool shoulder bag she made for a friend.

Easy like a...

... Sunday of frame gussets.

I felt like there needed to be more support in this area.

It lives

Finally took some time at the end of the day today to disassemble the old Pexto roller, fix a couple bits, and get her all lubed up. Thanks go out to the one and only Walter G. for the generous shop donation.

Thanks B-boys

Much appreciated Christmas package from the boys at Biltwell. Filled up the pint as soon as I sat down tonight.

Stupid BSP thread

It took me a while to squeeze info out of the people who resell these little brass petcocks on what exactly the thread pitch was. For anyone that needs to know the pitch was 1/8"-28 bsp parallel. I would've thrown them in the trash if they weren't so neat.

A reminder of hard work

I remember the first time I was sucked into the story of Dick Proenneke and his choice at the age of 51 to quit his job and move to into the Alaskan wilderness to live in solitude for roughly 35 years. I've read and watched his story many times and it's had a deep effect on me. There are a ton of people I've had the luck of meeting that share the ideals of hard work that I hold dear, but watching "Alone in the Wilderness" again while I'm lining up my week and doing some design work reminds me how many people just don't get it. I myself stray and "don't get it" at times but with a little reminder from time to time I wheel myself back on line. If you've never read or seen Dick Proenneke's story, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Forward swept t-bars

Inspired by the works of Ron Finch and one of Max Schaaf's builds. Hats off to the craftsmen that take time in the detail work to make things right.

Bungzzz

Makin' miters

Tested the adjustable tube miter fixture in the Bridgeport. Seems to work the way it should but man I wish I had a cold saw.
